Tomorrow's Capital Markets focusses on how to ensure finance flows to productive investment opportunities which will secure value over the short, medium and long-term. The project looks at the system as a whole and the importance of the behaviours of key participants, with a particular focus on incentives in each key part of the system, the framework conditions which shape how the system works and what is needed to realise particular opportunities such as energy, food and water.
Building on its work with the current Lord Mayor of the City of London through 'Tomorrow's City' it wants to set out how capital markets - strongly focussing on equities - can succeed in supporting future growth and prosperity across the world, so that companies can harness the transformative possibilities of new technology and innovation for the benefit of shareholders and other stakeholders.
It has created a 'safe space' within which leading market participants can work together to set out a robust and credible programme for reform. This recognises that change is needed but that many current regulatory and other introductions are a response to the 'last crisis' and will have unintended consequences whilst frustrating the contribution of financial markets to recovery, the creation of long-term value and future prosperity.
The project is building a powerful coalition to develop and set out a roadmap for systemic change. Our methodology is to create a series of provocations/interim findings in UK/Europe and then to test these with key actors in North America and Asia, working with our US and other international partners.
