Seven tips for using Yammer
Yammer-tip #1: I can’t log onto Yammer!
1. Check that you have activated your account by clicking on the link in the invitation email.
2. Complete the sign-up process with your full name, password (you can choose your own password or use NSFM08).
3. OPTIONAL: At this stage, you can also already choose which NSFM member you want to “follow” – i.e. receive their messages/posts in your feed – unless you are very interested in someone’s views, we’d recommend no.
4. OPTIONAL: On the next page, you can download Yammer onto your desktop / blackberry / iphone so that you see conversations on Yammer in real time without having to go to the Yammer website (it works like Skype or MSN). This is much easier than it sounds but some firewalls won’t allow you to download it so you may have to ask you IT adviser.
Yammer-tip #2: I’ve managed to log in once but now I can’t log in again.
1. Go to: www.yammer.com/login
2. Make sure you are using your NSFM email (i.e. firstname.lastname@nsfm-members.com). If you’re unsure what your NSFM email is, see individual logins in the attached spreadsheet or contact me.
Yammer-tip #3: My password isn’t working/i forgot my password
1. Go to www.yammer.com/login and click on “don’t know your password”
2. Yammer will ask for your email. Here, you should give your NSFM email address. You will automatically receive an email – forwarded to your usual inbox – asking you to reset your password.
Yammer-tip #4: I’ve accidentally posted an incorrect message – how can I delete it?
1. Only NSFM members are allowed on to the Yammer site.
2. Users commit to observing the Chatham House rule – ie that if you want to make use of what someone says, do so without identifying the source (see #nsfm-house-rules on Yammer).
Yammer-tip #6: I see something that I think is libelous or in some other way really inappropriate to have on this site. What can I do?
1. Contact NSFM’s Yammer coordinator on cecilechuret@gmail.com
Yammer-tip #7: I am getting too many Yammer-related messages. How can I turn off the reminders?
1. Once you’re logged into Yammer, go to Settings (top right) and then to Emails (left-hand side menu) where you will be able to disable (tick off) the email notification options at the bottom of the page. You can also allow go to: www.yammer.com/account/email
