Bio:
Harald Walkate has a longstanding interest in sustainability issues and has been
specializing in responsible investment and ESG issues since 2009, when Harald
joined AEGON Asset Management (AAM) as Head of the Corporate Office. In this
role, Harald reports to the CEO of AAM and is involved in a variety of
initiatives around strategy and governance, including the implementation of a
Responsible Investment Framework.Work on responsible investment has covered policy issues (including exclusion lists,
stakeholder dialogues, NGO contacts), starting up engagement processes, working
with portfolio managers in the different AAM geographies to integrate ESG in
investment decision making, and becoming a signatory to the PRI. In addition,
Harald has advised internal clients (the AEGON insurance and pensions
companies), as well as external clients, on matters related to responsible
investment.A particular area of interest is engagement and ESG integration for
credits, given that AAM is primarily a fixed income investor.A former corporate attorney, Harald also has significant experience in
international business development (M&A, joint ventures, greenfields), in
particular in the Central & Eastern European region, and holds a law degree
(Leiden University, the Netherlands) and an MBA (University of Chicago – Booth
School of Business).
