Michael Jantzi

BIO:

I’ve been working in the responsible investing field since 1990 and founded Jantzi Research Inc., an independent ESG investment research firm, in 1992.  I’ve spend my career working with the investment community and plan sponsors to help them better understand the benefits of integrating ESG parameters into the investment process, primarily in the Canadian arena.  Our team has gained a reputation for innovative thinking, and for being able to bridge the gap between the traditional socially responsible investing community and the mainstream.  Financial market reform has been an interest of mine for several years and I’ve participated in numerous initiatives in this area, including an appointment to the Task Force of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy’s Capital Markets and Sustainability program.  I’m a former board director of KLD Research & Analytics, Inc. and currently sit as a member of the finance and investment committee of the TIDES Canada Foundation.  I’m expecting to re-join the board of Canada’s Social Investment Organization, subsequent to the AGM in November, for which I was a founding member and served for nine years.

Interests:

I’m interested in creating structures, regulatory or otherwise, that encourage all players in the financial community (including the corporate sector) to shift decision making to a longer-term time horizon.  This, in turn, will help broaden the discussion with respect to the integration of ESG into mainstream thinking and re-defining what we mean by long-term shareholder value.
