Stirling Habbitts

Bio:

My current career focus and personal interest is the creation of a global emissions trading market as the solution to the problem of climate change. I have a strong interest in further exploring and contributing to the links between investment decisions, project finance and carbon dioxide emissions reductions, in particular using the mechanism of an emissions trading market to place a cost on emissions and drive investment in emissions reductions and zero-emission energy technology. My current position is VP Natural Resources in ING Bank’s Structured Finance division in Amsterdam, working on the development and finance of projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and commercialisation through the processes of the Kyoto Protocol and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. Prior to ING, I spent five years with KPMG’s Global Sustainability Services team in Amsterdam, Sydney and Johannesburg with a focus on sustainability performance disclosure and climate change issues, where I inter-alia co-authored the study Reporting the Business Implications of Climate Change in Sustainability Reports. I have Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.
