General Secretary of International Trade Union Confederation says the significance of pension funds cannot be underestimated

In a speech using material provided by NSFM, Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC)  addressed the Fiduciary Investors Symposium in Santa Monica, USA.

"The significance of pension funds cannot be underestimated," she said, "and thus the capacity to lead rather than follow investment activity, to establish demands on governments and markets, is possible if there is the will to do so."

The full speech is available here.

NSFM Director, Cary Krosinsky, summarised: "There emerged a clear sense that asset owners need to work more in concert and that more legal work is needed on the fiduciary duty front."
