Tanja Havemann

Current Activities:

I have experience in private equity, fixed income and carbon finance. I am currently the director of Clarmondial, a Swiss investment advisory business that has worked with investors, corporates, international research organisations and major NGOs to source, structure, due diligence and make sustainable investments. Our primary focus has been emerging markets, in particular sustainable land management and clean technology / renewables sectors. We have also had experience with Fin Tech, VC and 'green' microfinance. I am a member of the Climate Bonds Initiative Speakers Bureau, and led the development of sector specific guidance for the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sectors, which involved ca. 30 major corporates and over 10 international research institutions. I previously worked for Climate Change Capital on the advisory team and subsequently on the investments team. Clarmondial is currently working with some major agricultural corporates to structure an innovative agriculture value chain fund, which we hope to bring to market in 2016.

My academic background is multi-disciplinary; a BSc (Hons) in Tropical Environmental Science, focussed on tropical soils, from the University of Aberdeen, a MSc from Imperial College London in Applied Environmental Economics and an LLM from University of Kent at Canterbury on Environmental Law and Policy. I have strong ties to sub Saharan Africa as I was born and raised in Tanzania and Kenya, and my family still resides in Tanzania. I also covered South East Asia for Climate Change Capital and so continue to have ties to that region. I am proactive in my approach and enjoy putting deals and products together and testing new structures. I am excited about developing new products that can better address environmental externalities and have been proactive in engaging with fora that push the boundaries, from a macro perspective (e.g. Climate Bonds Initiative and also as part of the first AFOLU drafting team for the Verified Carbon Standard) to smaller projects (e.g. business development for a new African fin tech venture that provides information services to farmers).

My core areas of interest around themes are: sustainable land management, renewable energy / clean tech, fin tech and financial services in emerging markets. Geographically my main areas of interest are emerging markets. In terms of products, I am interested in PE, fixed income, VC and impact investing.
